Policies for Self-Paced High School Courses

Taking high school self-paced courses is a great way to keep up or even jump ahead. The following Policies and Frequently Asked Questions provide further information about our program. If you have further questions, contact us.

Enrollment

Anyone may enroll in self-paced high school courses but, if you are currently attending school, you will need to include your principal’s, vice principal’s or school counselor’s signature on your registration form. Students who are homeschooled do not need this signature; they only need to indicate, in writing, “homeschooled” on their registration form.

You may enroll in a self-paced course at any time, whenever it is convenient for you.

Approvals

Students using self-paced high school credit to meet requirements for a high school diploma must obtain the approval of their principal or counselor prior to registration. Documentation of this approval must be received in our office before we are able to process your registration. The desired/requested course/courses should be clearly indicated. This policy applies only to students currently enrolled a high school. Homeschoolers are not required to have a signature.

Tuition: High School Courses

Tuition is $125 plus a $15 non-refundable processing fee per course, except for AP® courses which are $250 per course. An additional $25 fee is charged for foreign language courses. Make checks payable to the University of Arizona (no second-party checks may be used). MasterCard, Visa, and American Express are accepted. This fee does not include the cost of textbooks, audiotapes, videotapes, CDs or other course materials.

Tuition is subject to change without notice. Call the UA Outreach College Student Services Center at 520-621-7724 or 800-995-8632 to confirm current costs before sending in your payment.

Withdrawal, Drop/Add and Refund Policies

A student must withdraw from a course within 30 days of registration to be eligible for a partial refund. If you want to withdraw or drop/add classes, you must do so in writing within 30 days of registration. There is a fee charged for withdrawal and drop/add. The transfer from one course to another is considered the same as drop/add and can only be done when:

  1. No assignments have been submitted, or in the case of a course consisting of exams only, no exam has been taken.
  2. The counselor verifies the need to drop/add and verifies the course needed.

Before You Register...
Before you register for a course, be certain it’s what you need. If you change your mind after your registration has been processed, a withdrawal or a drop/add fee will be added.

Additional Fees

Withdrawal fee: $35

  1. Time-extension fee: $35
  2. Change-of-course processing fee: $30 per drop/add
  3. Replacement of a lost syllabus: $20 (non-refundable), plus $5 for mailing

Payment

Payment is due at the time of registration. We accept cash, checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Exams

  • All assignments must be graded and returned to you before taking an exam.
  • If you are graduating or need to have a final grade to your school by a certain date, complete all lessons and the midterm, and take the final exam at least 30 days before the deadline set by your school.

  • A student will not be permitted to take the final examination for a course in less than 6 weeks for a high school course from the date of registration and all assignments be graded and returned to the student.
  • If you would like to take the examination at the University of Arizona, Outreach College, call (520) 626-4229, or come by and make an appointment several days in advance of the examination date desired. Exams will not be given unless the student shows picture identification. Students will not be admitted to take exams once testing has begun.
  • If you live somewhere other than Tucson, complete the Request-A-Test Form. The form may be submitted electronically or by regular mail. Approved examination proctors are also listed on this form. No one related to you may act as your proctor, nor may your employer. Exams cannot be faxed to or from the proctor. Only the proctor may return the exam to this office.
  • Submitting the name of a person who does not fall within the stated positions or incomplete information will only cause delay in having your examination sent. Although others are very capable of acting as proctors, accreditation standards stipulate that only those mentioned be approved, no exceptions. You must notify the Outreach College in advance if your exam is to be sent outside of the continential U.S.
  • Allow one week after sending the Request-A-Test Form to our office for the examination to reach the proctor. It is your responsibility to contact the proctor and set up a date to take the exam. Exams must be taken within 30 days from the date the exam was mailed to the proctor, or it will be returned to our office. However, all course requirements must be completed by the expiration date.
  • Your final grade will be sent to you and the Registrar at your school. Included with your grade you will receive a comment sheet if the Instructor has made any remarks in reference to the exam.
